About the Kolter Campaign
The Kolter School is a premier Houston Independent School District (HISD) elementary school dedicated to nurturing the unique academic and personal potential of each student by partnering with teachers, parents and the community. Kolter is the only elementary magnet school for foreign languages and cultures in Texas which features a comprehensive language program for kindergarten through fifth grade in Chinese, Japanese, French, and Spanish. In addition to this unique program, students are prepared for success with an outstanding core curriculum.
Our magnet program emphasizes the values and ideals of global understanding and responsible citizenship. While learning new languages as a key means of communicating and problem solving, Kolter students also learn about the people and cultures of the world. It is through this understanding that we nurture critical and compassionate thinkers who will become informed participants in our local communities and leaders in our world markets. We believe strongly in giving our children opportunities to understand people and cultures of the world for lifelong success in our evolving global economy.
The Kolter School is very proud of its accomplishments. We are a three-time recipient of the prestigious TBEC Texas Honor Roll School, and we have been named a TEA Exemplary School nine out of the last ten years. Kolter students and staff work diligently to maintain numerous and consecutive Gold Performance Awards by HISD and TEA. Texas Monthly also recognizes Kolter as a Best Public School. The US government has consistently awarded Kolter substantial major grants, which further enrich our foreign language program.
The Kolter School is leading a corporate campaign to raise funds for equipping teachers and students with new technology capable of transforming the Kolter learning environment. To do this, the school has identified these key areas in need of attention.
- Completing the work of equipping all classrooms with SMART Board technology in order to provide all children access to this state-of-the-art technology. SMART Boards allow teachers to build more engaging and flexible lessons. Estimated cost: $45,000
- Increasing student access to computers by purchasing enough hardware to equip each classroom with four student computers. Estimated cost: $50,400
- Campus-wide wireless capability to pave the way for the use of cutting-edge technologies and optimizing flexibility in learning environments. Estimated cost: $55,000
The total amount necessary to achieve our goals is about $150,000. The support of the corporate community is essential to our success.
